BIG BEAR STAMPEDE
TRAIL RACE/RUN/WALK – SEPTEMBER 9, 2017 SPONSOR REQUEST

The goal of the BIG BEAR STAMPEDE is to create awareness of depression as a real illness; one that kills, and to encourage necessary responses in Park County, Montana. Depression affects one in five people in Montana. The community of Gardiner has had the courage to stand up and confront this issue by bringing information, education and counseling services to our schools and communities. WE APPRECIATE THE SUPPORT OF ALL OUR SPONSORS. YOUR DONATIONS HAVE HELPED THIS HAPPEN. WE NEED YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT.

2015 Accomplishments and Activities

  • QPR Training: Teaches how to Question, Persuade and Refer those in crisis. Look forcontinued trainings for NPS and Xanterra employees this spring and summer.
  • Good Behavior Game: Techniques for developing self-regulation in young children,grades 1-2
  • More than Sad: A program that targets teens, presented in Gardiner School
  • ASSIST Training: Teaches suicide intervention skills. Many interested communitymembers have been trained (close to 100). Additional trainings planned for 2016
  • Zero Suicide: A program presented at Chico Hot Springs outlining a strategy forimproving suicide prevention in health care systems. Local educators, mental healthleaders, community members, and local hospital administrators attended this program.
  • Mental Health First Aid: Many locals have participated in this 8 hour course forteachers, health care workers, Park Service employees. Ongoing trainings will continue.
  • Youth Awareness of Mental Health (YAM): This world-wide program, proven todecrease suicidal thoughts and actions, is coming to Gardiner School this fall as a pilotprogram in Montana.
  • 3rd Annual Big Bear Stampede Trail Race/Run/Walk: About 130 participants and 50volunteers attended the event, the face of our cause. Nikki Kimball, renown ultra-marathoner and area resident presented a compelling message of outreach.
  • 2nd Annual Achieve Your Dreams Day: An adventure day hosted by Big Bear, FlyingPig rafting and Hells-A-Roaring horseback rides for selected students from Gardiner andPark High Schools. This day benefits those striving to overcome obstacles.
  • Counseling Services: A professional counselor is available every Friday at theGardiner Baptist Church. Funding for those unable to pay is made possible by YOUR donations.Please support us, your community, and support those who desperately need services by sponsoring the 4th annual BIG BEAR STAMPEDE.
